It is with much regret that the Jackson Holmes Salmon Run Organising Committee has had to make the hard decision this afternoon (Thursday 12 October)  to cancel the 2023 Jackson Holmes Salmon Run Event that was to be held this Saturday 14 October.

Due to the advice, we have received regarding the forecasted red weather warnings for the weekend, (Gale force NW Winds) the committee decided that our Competitors and Volunteers/Marshalls safety and well-being is paramount, and it was better to cancel now and not risk the chance of injury or damage to equipment on Saturday.

We hope that you are all in agreement with our decision and look forward to seeing you all in 2024..

- The Jackson Holmes Salmon Run Organising Commitee

The Lions Club of Rakaia and its many volunteers are once again organising their successful Jackson Holmes Salmon Run.

The 2023 Jackson Holmes Salmon Run will be held on Saturday 14 October 2023, starting in the Rakaia Domain at 9.30am.

2023 is the eighth year it will be held, (2020 was cancelled due to Covid restrictions).

2023 offers Competitors four events, Multisport, Long Duathlon and Short Duathlon Courses, and a 21km Off Road Half Marathon, which merges a Half Marathon distance for runners.

The Jackson Holmes Salmon Run is being organised for the masses and includes competitive and non-competitive stages, individual and team categories. Walk, bike, run and/or kayak – the choice is yours. It is all about participating and having fun.

Due to a lack of competitors numbers in past years, the committee have decided to concentrate on holding a unique event which encompasses the Multisport events, so the Mountain Biking and Special Runs have been deleted from our line-up.

All events are staged around the splendour of the Rakaia River and its riverbed and ensures all races start and finish at the Rakaia Domain, to make it easier for those without support teams.

Due to the event being fully reliant on weather, river conditions, and government guidelines at the time, courses, maps, rules, and hazards are all subject to change however event organisers will endeavour to notify competitors of any changes affecting them. Updates will be clearly marked on the website and by notifications on the Salmon Run Facebook site

All our Event maps and course details have been loaded onto www.plotaroute.com. This is a live website that shows all the course maps with satellite and street views, and features the kilometres, elevations, and details relevent to our events which you can also review. It is an incredible tool for our event as each map can also be downloaded onto your own personal devices to help with your training. Click here to see how you can do this.

We always focus on having a delightful selection of impressive spot prizes which every entrant is eligible for and in 2023 all competitors who finish their event will be rewarded with a 2023 Finishers Medal.

As well we will be acknowledging the champions of all our categories, presenting them with their unique prize-winner medals and fresh farm produce.

Check out our sponsors page as these are the people who ensure this event happens and provide the fabulous prizes. Some of our sponsors have been supporting us since the beginning.

All profits are returned to the Rakaia Area to support sporting projects for the community.

The Rakaia region is rich in agriculture and is a paradise for running, cycling and multisport events as well as for any other outdoor pursuits. The Jackson Holmes Salmon Run offers a platform to enable this and brings competitors together from near and far.

Our beautiful, braided Rakaia River is the perfect location for this event. If you are entering the Coast to Coast this race will be a nice addition to your training schedule.
